The Vendetta of Felipe Espinosa

Written by Adam James Jones
Review by Bryan Dumas

During the Civil War, a rogue vigilante is roaming wild across Colorado and New Mexico killing indiscriminately. Felipe Espinosa is credited as being one of America’s first serial killers and, following what he believes is a divine mission, he, along with his brother, exacts revenge against American settlers.

It is very clear that Adam James Jones has a passion for the American West and that he has done his research on the lives of the people involved with Felipe Espinosa, but there are times that all this knowledge slows the progress of the novel. There are chapters that could stand to be edited out, and in the end Felipe Espinosa just comes off as a lunatic. The other characters merely play out as a sideshow in the madness of Felipe. Adam James Jones’ writing style is crisp and thoughtful, and there are moments when you are able to connect with a few of the characters. If your passion is the American West, this book is one to read. If not, I do not feel confident recommending it.
