The Reluctant Suitor
The epitome of perfection, Lady Adriana Sutton controls the hearts of the eligible bachelors of England’s Wiltshire countryside. Yet because of a betrothal agreement binding her to an unwilling boy, none can claim her. Adriana was only six and Colton Wyndham eighteen when the pact was formed. In utter disgust, Colton immediately ran away to join the military. In 1815, his father’s unexpected death requires him to return and assume his place as the Marquess of Randwulf. He quickly discovers that the agreement is still in effect, but that the terms allow him to refuse the match after a mandatory three-month courtship. Complicating matters is Adriana’s feistiness and unexpected beauty.
Adding suspense to the romantic mix is a spurned rival who chases after the compassionate Adriana even though protocol requires that she marry within her peerage. His reaction to Lord Randwulf’s courtship of Adriana adds drama to an otherwise slow-moving novel. Although rambling at times and plagued with a few improbable events, this novel is one of many by an author respected in her genre. It may not be one of her best, but romance readers may want to add her to their to-be-read lists anyway.
