Miriam in the Shadows
Spring 1944, France/England. Twenty-six-year-old Miriam Maduro, a Dutch-Jewish member of the Special Operations Executive (SOE), re-emerges from a tortured past when forced to accept a dangerous D-Day mission. John Winn Miller’s third novel in the Peggy C Saga is a tense, fast-paced, action-packed historical thriller. Miller’s meticulous attention to detail, and his thorough research into the international World War II environment, provides a gripping, true-to-life setting for this intricate, immersive story. Miriam is a strong, multi-skilled, and fascinating heroine who is presented as not only extraordinary in her daring, but very human and real in her personal life. Jake Rogers, her lover, is also portrayed with the same human touch in a story that exudes danger and surreal survival events. The additional characters are well-developed and allow for greater insight into the main characters and what life during WWII was really like. An engrossing read, mesmerizing in dialogue, plot twists, and surprising events.
