Subtitled “Great Short Stories from America’s Newest Western Writers,” this book is an anthology of short stories about the American West. Most of them are traditional Western tales, although three are contemporary narratives. As the title suggests, the stories are about outlaws involved in cattle rustling, robbing banks, and stealing and killing, providing reasons why crime does not pay. The outlaws clash with the lawmen responsible for bringing justice to the West.
Six-time Spur Award winner Johnny D. Boggs has contributed the introduction, and the stories are written by relative newcomers to the genre. They each have their own unique voice and possess exceptional knowledge about Western culture. This is a new anthology series, and it is the publisher’s hope that this collection will serve as a stepping stone for future works by new storytellers.
