The Curse of Skull Canyon
Fourteen-year-old Lonnie Gentry lives with his mother and infant stepbrother on a ranch, raising cattle in the Never Ending Mountains of Colorado. While working a herd of cattle near Skull Mountain, which has a canyon said to be cursed by the local Indians, he is shot at by a band of outlaws. Spending the night in the canyon, he stumbles upon a mortally wounded cowboy. He tries to comfort him, and upon the cowboy’s death, rides to town to report it. Eventually accused of murder by the sheriff, Gentry, along with his friend, a young girl named Casey Stoveville, attempt to solve the death of the cowboy, clear his name of the murder, and find out where the hidden treasure could be.
The novel, second in a series, is packed with action, fast-paced, and difficult to put down. This western has an unlikely hero who always seems to attract trouble, and it’s an excellent coming of age story. I recommend this novel highly to western enthusiasts and those who enjoy a story that will keep you immersed in the plot as it continues to untangle until the last chapter.
