Death on the Tiber (Flavia Albia)
Death on the Tiber is the latest Flavia Alba novel from Lindsey Davis. Domitian is Emperor of Rome. Gang warfare has erupted following the death of a criminal kingpin as rival gangs battle for supremacy and territory, while the authorities, either through incompetence or self-interest, take little action.
A lone woman arrives amidst the latest batch of travellers. Her body is found floating in the Tiber. Her wrists are bound and she is gagged. Her clothing indicates she is a Briton. This is enough to ignite Flavia’s interest, and she decides to investigate the death of a fellow Briton. Her enquiries take her deep into the criminal underworld and contact with callous, ruthless, evil villains. Into the mix throw a shadowy figure from her past when she lived in Britannia. Flavia finds she must confront dark memories which now threaten her life in Rome.
Fans of Lindsey Davis will know what to expect from this latest offering; a taut story line, strong characterization, and a plot which races along, with a strong streak of humour which flows throughout the book. Settle down in your favourite armchair with a cup of coffee, a chocolate hob nob and enjoy! Recommended.
