A Passion for Pleasure
This is the second book in the Daring Hearts series. In 19th-century England, widow Clara Whitmore has been separated from her young son by her evil father. Her plan to get her son back requires marrying a man to whom she can give her house and who can then give the house to her evil father. Sebastian Hall is the man she proposes to. He is an Earl’s son who has had to give up teaching piano lessons and working as a musician because of a disability. Now his father (the Earl) wants him to take a job as a clerk in the Patent Office. Sebastian sees marriage to Clara as a way out.
This story did not feel terribly 19th-century to me, and the minor elements of the plot seem sometimes illogical. However, the main points of the book: Clara wants her son back, and Clara and Sebastian want to sleep together, are perfectly clear and developed with emotion and passion. Although historical fiction enthusiasts might become frustrated, fans of Nina Rowan are bound to like the sizzling sex scenes and to disregard the rest.
