How to Lose a Laird
In 1775, three young, orphaned sisters are living in a somewhat dilapidated castle on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. Two strange and apparently ominous men unexpectedly show up unannounced, setting off a series of tumultuous events. Freya, the middle sister, is removed for her own safety, as the local townspeople believe the three girls are witches. Another wilder sister flees into the forests, and the oldest sister is sheltered by a respectable gentleman.
Freya is bewildered by her reaction to her captor/protector, as he is equally uncomfortable with his task of dealing with this sometimes annoying but also captivating red-haired beauty. Of course there are family responsibilities for everyone to consider. So, with the threat of vengeful townsmen on the hunt, the sisters and their rescuers must carry on.
I’m convinced this novel is the perfect epitome of a romance lover’s romance. Every minute nuance of that genre is covered in full detail. The book even features a scene where the brawny hero throws the fair damsel over his shoulder, caveman-style, and carries her off. Though not my category preference in historical fiction, I still found this book constantly amusing and likeable. Romance fans will absolutely adore it.
