24 Hours at Agincourt: 25 October, 1415

Review by Sally Zigmond

Although I am fascinated by medieval history, I was not expecting to enjoy reading Michael Jones’ detailed book as much as I did. All I knew about Agincourt before I opened it came from Shakespeare’s Henry V, so it was fascinating to realize that much of the Bard’s version of the events surrounding the battle was accurate. Yes, the English were heavily outnumbered; yes, their use of the longbow was a key factor and yes, the French were arrogant and over-confident, even blasé, which lead to their near annihilation.

With eyewitness accounts from the impartial to the partisan on both sides, of every stage of the battle, this book amounts to a brilliant history book. If you’re someone who plays with model soldiers, a historical novelist or an expert on medieval warfare, this has everything you need. By the way, the timeline of this book covers far more than one day.
