The Last Moriarty
Sherlock Holmes has been in hiding since his last case; thanks to the writing of his partner, Watson, the world thinks Holmes is dead. But his anonymous comings and goings are about to end when a young actress from the famous D’Oyly Carte Opera Troupe knocks on his 221B Baker Street front door, begging him to find her parents. Holmes and Watson are slow to accept this case, as they’ve been recruited by high officials in England to find out who murdered a high-ranking assistant. They believe the death is linked to an upcoming summit that will change the face of travel and trade for both America and England, with a Prime Minister and the American Rockefellers cooperating in this momentous venture. So the investigation begins, with an old nemesis of Holmes escaping from prison and determined to outdo Holmes with his nefarious plot. This thriller has just enough dialogue, clue-ridden facts and inferences, and scintillating, life-threatening action to make this a finely balanced novel worthy of the original Holmes stories. A terrific historical mystery, highly recommended!
