On Seas of Glory
John Lehman, U.S. Secretary of the Navy under President Reagan, is an unabashed admirer of sailors and of their contributions to American national defense. His popular history is written for those who share both his love for seaborne adventure and respect for the sacrifice and courage of the officers and men who served in war and in peace. This is most assuredly not a scholarly monograph, nonetheless, Lehman’s interpretations are difficult to counter and his knowledge of events, technologies, and personalities is as authoritative as one would find in more research-oriented volumes.
