Medieval Scotland: Fia Mackintosh exchanges a glance with a roguish Lowlander across a village square. Minutes later, a gang of ruffians set to destroy property and cause chaos. Fia is kidnapped by the handsome rogue and held against her will. But who is Iain Dubh? Why is he protecting her against the others? Why does he speak in a cultured voice to her, and as an uneducated lout with the gang? What are his secrets?

Iain Dubh, aka Niall Corbett, is on a mission for the king. He must discover who is sowing discord between the Mackintosh and the Cameron clans. He must keep his identity from Fia: revealing it could damaging the mission—or cost their lives. When Iain is severely beaten, Fia nurses him back to health, only to fall in love with her erstwhile captor. She gets him to Edinburgh and the king, but never discovers if Iain loves her.

I enjoyed this Harlequin romance, the third novel in the Highland Feuding series. It stands alone, but the references to the previous books give a taste of the other stories. It has some sex, and the language is generally mild. The characters of Fia and Iain are fleshed out and believable. A fun read!
