The Duchess and the Dragon
The Duchess and the Dragon is an inspirational romance set in the mid-18th century. His father’s shocking new will denies Drake Weston his inheritance as Duke of Northumberland, and a desperate bid to retain the title sees him end up sick, penniless, and an indentured servant in Pennsylvania. There he is nursed to health by the Quakeress Serena Winter (who begins to have very un-Quakerlike thoughts the moment she sees him). Eventually, fate brings the possibility of return to England and the dukedom—but at the price of deceiving Serena, now his wife. In what ensues, both are brought to question the worlds in which they were raised, and discover the truth, their true selves, and, of course, true love.
Although I found the storyline very engaging, it was rather unevenly paced, and the character of Serena, and parts of the plot itself, sometimes felt to me like elements of a conventional romance squeezed into a Christian mold. However, Jamie Carie is certainly a rising talent; if you are looking for a few hours of delightful escapism and like your inspirational romances a little breathless, then this novel will deliver.
