The Earl’s Christmas Pearl: A Duke’s Daughters Novella
When Lady Pearl Howlett is accidentally left behind at their London townhouse by her very scattered mother, she welcomes the opportunity to revel in the unexpected freedom. Without servants in an empty house, however, conditions are challenging for a totally inexperienced young Victorian lady. Will the grumpy, but handsome, Earl of Llanover, who is nursing a sprained ankle next door, help a damsel in distress? He does, and they fall in love. Very rapidly.
Despite the amusing circumstances and insight into the consequences of an over-protected life, this story strains credulity. Pearl is too ready for sexual discovery, and an earl, even a Welsh one, would hardly spend time shearing sheep.
Enjoy this novella as a pleasant flight of fantasy: a quick, light read for Christmas for those seeking an escape from the pressures of the season. Might the consequences of that escape prove sadly less than hoped? Or much better?
