Sherlock Holmes, the Missing Years: Japan
England, 1893: Dr. John Watson is in deep mourning; Sherlock Holmes is dead. Indeed the world is also stunned by the demise of a detective all had believed invulnerable to death. Now Watson receives a mysterious letter and sets forth on a journey to Yokohama, Japan, a trip fraught with murders, attempted poisoning, and suspicion among the passengers traveling between Liverpool and Bombay. Holmes’s murderer, Mr. Moriarty, is the chief antagonist behind a plot to destroy the economies of Asia and Europe and control the worldwide reins of power. Watson and a secret fellow traveler frantically attempt to stymie this evil plan.
In between the various stages of this tense plot are magnificent scenes of culture involving Japanese and Indian music, architecture, cuisine and a final Japanese short story about ghosts that is stunning in its beauty and surprisingly powerful story line. This novel once again portrays the brilliant master of crime, Sherlock Holmes. A highly recommended historical mystery.
