My Sherlock Holmes: Untold Stories of the Great Detective

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes is one of literature’s most memorable characters. This is a collection of thirteen short stories from various authors such as Peter Tremayne, Cara Black, and Barbara Hambly. In these stories, one does not find the usual mysteries with Sherlock Holmes as the main character.

Beginning each story is a short prefatory excerpt from an original Holmes tale. The story is then explained from the perspective of a character from the original Conan Doyle mystery. In one story, Mycroft, Sherlock’s older brother, tells his side of the story of the final confrontation between Holmes and Dr. Moriarty in “The Final Problem.” We see Mycroft exploring his involvement with the two characters and his influence on Sherlock.

I found it fascinating to see Sherlock Holmes from the view of a character other than Dr. Watson. Other Holmes characters who relate their stories in this collection are Mrs. Watson, Dr. Moriarty, Mrs. Hudson, and Billy, the page boy. Any Sherlock Holmes reader will enjoy this fresh twist on the legendary character.
