In Feast or Famine (The Egyptian Chronicles)
In Old Testament days, a Hebrew man, Joseph, has been sold into Egyptian slavery by his jealous brothers. He is then wrongly accused of a serious crime, and spends years in prison. He is able to interpret Pharaoh’s dreams and for this is made Grand Vizier—the second most powerful position in Egypt. He is tasked with preparing the land for the seven years of plenty and then the seven years of famine that he has predicted.
Asenath is an Egyptian girl who has spent her whole life in the temple of Ra, where her father, Potifera, is high priest. She is being raised to be the goddess Isis incarnate, but her destiny changes when she weds Joseph in an arranged marriage. An angel of the Lord appears to her, and this experience makes her able to accept Joseph’s God as her own.
As Potifera plots against them and causes incessant problems, they work together to heal Egypt from its divisions and help the land get through the coming fourteen years. Joseph’s brothers reappear toward the end of the story. Should he forgive them? Can he be reunited with his beloved father, Jacob?
Each chapter of this action-packed book starts with a Bible verse that adds richness and beauty to the narrative. The biblical Joseph of Genesis is well-known, but the author adds a trove of detail about ancient Egypt that is in turn fascinating and harrowing. Endnotes explain how this multi-published Christian author researched this little-known period for historical accuracy.
