Hecate’s Moon
Armand de Delacroix flees his home in Alsace to his father’s run-down estate in North Devon. Having seen his parents killed by Revolutionists, Armand vows to return to fight for the Monarchy. But he hadn’t reckoned on meeting dark-haired and beautiful Isabella. Isabella is the ward of Armand’s new neighbour, Raphael McAlpine, a rich businessman. She has no idea who her parents were or why she should have been adopted by McAlpine. All she knows is that he has taken young girls into his care before and appears to have found good marriages for them all.
Into the mix are thrown an old lady with renowned healing powers, a past history of missing red-haired girls, murdered suitors, crows, smuggling and corruption.
The story rattles along at a good pace and overall is a good read, however, I did find that most of the characters, whatever their alignment, were rather stereotyped and thus easy to work out. Having said that, if you like dashing Frenchmen, a romance which seems doomed, nasty villains, a secret cult and a bit of mystery with just a little magic thrown in, then you will enjoy this book.
