Hearts Stolen (A Texas Romance Book 2)
This stand-alone, second volume in McAdoo’s “Texas Romance” series finds Sassy Nightengale, a young wife held captive by the Comanche for five years, finally seeing the prospect of rescue when a small band of Texas Rangers are sent to the camp in order to negotiate for the release of several kidnapped white women. When it quickly becomes apparent her name is not on the list of those the Rangers have come to rescue, Ranger Levi Baylor manages to work out an additional ransom for Sassy and her four-year-old child. The plot is set-up naturally for a standard Western romance novel, but McAdoo livens things up not only with plenty of natural-ringing dialogue, but also by imparting to her hero an uncompromising morality that dictates he return Sassy to the father of her child rather than fall in love with her himself.
The novel is full of richly-rendered period detail, and is populated with secondary characters of very pleasing depth. McAdoo’s Christian readers will take extra satisfaction from the book’s strong overlay of Christian sensibilities. A satisfying and emotional read.
