Fever Therapy

John Harper is a farm boy from rural Morayshire, illegitimate and unaware of his true father. He meets and marries Hannah Wilson, leaves the countryside to become a policeman in Edinburgh, and the couple have three daughters. But Hannah develops ovarian cancer and is not expected to live very long. Harper spends all the time he can researching possible cures and stumbles upon a new treatment which has had considerable success (and criticism) in America. He leaves his job to be a travelling salesman to save up to take her to New York, but finally, he persuades the doctors to apply the treatment in Edinburgh and Hannah goes into remission but is still very ill.

The edition originally reviewed had incorrect formatting – left justified – but this has been rectified with a new edition published, resulting in the prospect of a good saga indeed. My only comment is that maybe the cover would benefit from something more eye-catching and professionally designed?

This is the first in a six-part series and the author has created strong characters, believable scenarios, has clearly done his  research on the treatment of cancer and ties up all the loose ends very neatly.
