A Game of Deceit: A Richard Knox Spy Thriller
This is a spy thriller set in the 1960s. The book opens with a death on a cargo ship, where an unfortunate crewman stumbles on a deadly secret. The action quickly moves to London where the central character, Richard Knox, has only recently returned to active duty with MI5. His assignment is to follow and protect a well-known scientist – routine for a spy of Knox’s experience – with unfortunate consequences. The action in this fast-moving thriller moves to Hong Kong. It is 1967 and the city is in chaos. Who is friend and who is foe? What is the threat to MI5? Who is the enemy?
This is a taut, exciting spy thriller with a strong plot and characters. The author brings alive the tumultuous times not only in Hong Kong but in the UK with the Cold War seemingly hotting up. This is a riveting novel for fans of Mick Herron and Ian Fleming. This is the first book I have read by Tim Glister, and I am off to my favourite bookshop for more! Recommended.
