Book five in the Matter of Class series continues the story of Bridget and Cormac and their family, now settled in Boston in the mid-19th century. Their daughter Emily is all grown up and determined to regain her upper-class life, even if it means betraying her family. When Rory, her father’s apprentice, insists on joining her voyage across the ocean, she grudgingly welcomes his presence. Will these two adversaries make it through the trip as friends or foes? When Bridget and Cormac learn their daughter has run off to London with Rory, they both know Cormac must go after her despite the dangers he will most certainly encounter if he returns to the country where is destined for jail. He only hopes he can find Emily and Rory before he is caught. Bridget is left to carry on raising their young sons until the rest of her family returns, but when she receives a letter with news of Cormac’s long-lost sister, she decides she had better act immediately. She and her sister-in-law head to New York City with the boys, only to be met with unimaginable dangers. Will they make it home all together or will they be lost to one another forever?

This fast-paced tale is full of adventure, suspense, and a hint of romance. While it is possible to enjoy the book on its own, it is much better read as part of the series. The books build directly on the previous one, making this an excellent choice for those times when you need a good binge read.
