Journey back to Washington, DC in 1927 to help Gertrude solve a chilling murder. Alongside her best friends, Milly and Clara, Gertrude is determined to make the most of the little time they have left before graduating from the girls’ finishing school they attend. It’s also easier to ignore her burgeoning feelings for the two girls if she stays busy. All Gertrude has ever known is the upscale glamor of the wealthy, thanks to her family’s financial status, but soon certain events make her question everything she sees. Mrs. Rose, her headmistress, is one of the few adults Gertrude can relax around, but when Mrs. Rose is murdered and the headmistress’s secrets come to light, can Gertrude reconcile the woman she knew with who she really was?

Things are all a-swing in the nation’s capital, and Gertrude is lucky to have Milly and Clara by her side as she investigates what the police have written off. Between bootlegged alcohol, a sniffing prohibition agent, and dark secrets, Gertrude will have to cut through the scandals to find the truth.

A fun young adult read dealing with thrilling suspense and the angst of growing up, there’s something for everyone to relate to in this work. Through the twists, emotional ups and downs, and family drama, readers will be rooting for Gertrude until the very end.
