What Child is This?
During the Christmas holidays in London, Sherlock Holmes finds himself investigating two cases. A wealthy couple’s child has been the target of a foiled kidnapping, and a country aristocrat’s son has vanished. Holmes, Doctor Watson, and the always entertaining Heffie O’Malley are on these cases as the Christmas season gets into full swing.
This entertaining novel transports us straight to a Victorian holiday in this fifth book in Bonnie MacBird’s Sherlock Holmes series. The characters are engaging, and the two mysteries, while simple, are compelling. The author touches on issues that are relevant to the Victorian era and to today. Doctor Watson as narrator is just the perfect touch, and there is a pleasant note of humor in the story that quickly draws the reader in. The author’s take on Watson and Holmes is unique and fresh, and Heffie O’Malley is a great addition to the cast of characters. This is an enjoyable read for Sherlock Holmes fans and fans of detective stories in general.
