Serafina and the Splintered Heart
According to the author, this third book in the Serafina series is the last. Set at the glamorous Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina at the turn of the 20th century, this book for children involves supernatural evil-doers who threaten the estate and all who reside within it.
This successful series is based on Cherokee legends about such creatures as shape-shifters and catamounts. In this last part of the story, Serafina must find herself and also figure out a way to return to her friend, Braeden, the nephew of the wealthy Vanderbilts who own Biltmore Estate. Through her own courage and daring, Serafina must battle once more against the forces of evil.
Not having read the first two books in the series is a disadvantage because Splintered Heart is not a stand-alone. The writer does little to help readers unaccustomed to this world feel at ease here. It’s easy to become distracted by the over-the-top prose and the high pitch of action which, to the uninitiated, feels unnecessary and contrived. However, those who have read the entire series might have a completely different take on the book.
