Saint George, Rusty Knight, and Monster Tamer is a series of nine self-contained historical short stories which introduces George, a hapless knight who has an unusual skill for monster taming, and which, with wit and delightful aplomb takes the young reader on an adventurous journey though some significant moments in history.
Aimed at the children’s book market with content that is entirely appropriate for younger readers, there is much to enjoy within each individual set of stories. I am sure that that ten- to twelve-year-olds will be fascinated by the fun historical content; however, some younger readers may need help with occasional complicated terminology. Each tale is a good length to be read in one sitting, which makes the book the perfect choice as a bedtime read. The stories are rich and varied with enough light-hearted content to make them entertaining. My own particular favourite was George and the Scottish Invasion, which made me laugh out loud.
The book is professionally produced to a high standard with age appropriate cover art. Interspersed within the book are a series of clever black and white line drawings to add an interesting and fun dimension.
