The Dragon King: First Emperor of China (Chronicles of the Watchers, Book One)
The first book in the Chronicles of the Watchers series by Brian Godawa and Charlie Wen takes place in 220 BC and sends the King of Babylon’s son, General Antiochus the Younger, on a long and perilous journey to China. His mission is to bring back a legendary creature called a ‘dragon,’ a creature that might be able to change the balance of power in the whole world.
The emperor of China, Ch’in Shih Huang Di, although deadly and unpredictable, is also curious about the kingdoms of the West, and although Godawa and Wen work a good deal of the supernatural into this first volume of their series, the book is very well researched and feels thoroughly grounded. The many action sequences are lean and exciting. I am intrigued to read the next book in the series.
