Emperor’s Fate (The Imperial Assassin, 6)
Alexandria, 215 AD. Silus, the emperor’s assassin, finds himself in the uncomfortable position of being employed as a bodyguard for the emperor, Caracalla. His fighting skills are seen as more gainfully employed in a close protection role for an emperor who is becoming increasingly unstable and paranoid. Opposition to Caracalla is growing, even within the closest members of his entourage. Silus finds himself torn between duty to his emperor, doing what is right for Rome, protecting his loved ones, and sheer survival. All the time, war is threatening. Swirling in this maelstrom of political manoeuvres, paranoia, and brutality, Silus walks a tightrope to survive.
This is the sixth and final book in the very popular Imperial Assassin series. Followers of the series will know what to expect: a well-researched, taut plot and strong characters. The culture and times are clearly portrayed, bringing them alive in an exciting and on occasion jaw-dropping, incident-packed story. Although the latest in a series, the book can be read as a standalone. I am looking forward to seeing what Alex Gough will produce next. Great read.
