Bio: Valerie Nieman’s Upon the Corner of the Moon: A Tale of the Macbeths (2025, Regal House Publishing) marks her first venture into historical fiction, though North Carolina history and the life of Linnaeus figured prominently in her literary mystery In the Lonely Backwater. That novel won the 2022 Sir Walter Raleigh Award and was a Foreword INDIES Book of the Year finalist. Her critically acclaimed work includes the novels To the Bones, Blood Clay (Eric Hoffer Award), three collections of poetry and one of short fiction. She has held state and NEA creative writing fellowships. A graduate of West Virginia University and Queens University of Charlotte, she is professor emerita at NC A&T State University. She has twice spent a month solo hiking in Scotland, visiting sites connected with the historical Macbeths from Glasgow to Orkney, Iona to the Moray coast.
