Bio: I retired from the US Army and have since worked as a lecturer in political science and security studies at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Among the courses I have taught was Politics and Literature, which used novels to explore political theory. A few years ago, I started to write short stories as a shift from academic writing. Since then, I have been fortunate enough to have several stories published, including the account of a German immigrant returning during WWII as an American soldier ("Home"), the terror faced by a mother during the Yugoslav War ("Hide and Seek"), and the struggles of a soldier buried alive in WWI trenches ("Underground"). My story about conscientious objectors in World War 1 will be part of the Northern Colorado Writers annual anthology. My focus is primarily on bringing the emotion of warfare to the page. I am currently working on a novel about tunnelers in World War 1.
