Bio: Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, in a large Irish Catholic family, Wernicke is the author of a novel set in 1964 in Peru, Toward That Which Is Beautiful, published by award winning She Writes Press. This novel was a finalist for the 2021 International Book Awards in Literary Fiction and in Romance Fiction. It also was a finalist in the 2021 American Fiction Awards in Multi-cultural Fiction. It received Honorable Mention in Fiction in the Catholic Press Association 2021 Book Awards. In April 2023 Wernicke's second novel, Out of Ireland, was published by She Writes Press, and is a finalist in Historical Fiction in the 2023 International Book Awards. Wernicke is also the author of a memoir about her father called Tom O'Shea: A Twentieth Century Man, as well as co-editor of a anthology of short fiction and memoir called Confessions: Fact or Fiction? A professor of English and creative writing at Pensacola State College for 25 years, she lives in San Diego, California.
