An Unfamiliar Duke (Georgian Gentleman, #4)
Betrothed since childhood in an agreement between their fathers, Rosalind Ainsworth and Sebastien Lumley, Duke of Kelford, haven’t set eyes on each other for ten years. When Sebastien finally makes contact with Rosalind’s mother, agreeing to fulfill the contract immediately after Rosalind’s imminent 21st birthday, Rosalind is less than pleased. After all, he’s had ten years to announce his intentions, and now she has to marry someone she doesn’t know, leave her family and friends, and learn to become a duchess in one fell swoop.
Set against a backdrop of the early industrial revolution in 1772, Bessey’s duke has an interest in science, engineering and invention, which he doesn’t initially share with his new wife, and this is cause for some consternation. The subject of arranged marriages, common amongst the British aristocracy, is dealt with in a compassionate manner, with two protagonists who are gentle, kind, attentive, thoughtful, and bound to find common ground and companionship, however bumpy the start. This is not an action-driven tale, but will suit readers of clean, wholesome romantic tales which have plenty of historical context and engaging dialogue.
