The Wicked Ways of Alexander Kidd
Romance sizzles on the high seas of the early 18th century in The Wicked Ways of Alexander Kidd, the latest in Paula Quinn’s series called The MacGregors: Highland Heirs. Feisty Caitrina Grant, niece of Clan MacGregor’s chieftain, finds life on the Isle of Skye to be dull. She stows away on the ship of pirate Alex Kidd, the son of the notorious Captain Kidd. Alex does not want a woman on board, fearing that she will make trouble, especially since he is off to seek his father’s lost treasure. However, he finds himself attracted to Caitrina and she to him, so that their passionate exchanges totally overshadow the rest of the plot and characters. I find it odd that Caitrina’s father, upon finally locating his daughter, allows her to sail off with Kidd without seeing them married first; Scottish Highland fathers tended to have strong ideas about such things in those days. It is, nevertheless, a lively novel for those who enjoy romantic fiction.
