Wings of Madness

Written by Paul Hoffman
Review by Juliet Waldron

This is a biography of a now forgotten aeronaut, Alberto Santos-Dumont, who, in 1901, was a household name. The author compares his public experimentation with the secretive trials of his contemporaries, the Wright Brothers. Wings of Madness is a fascinating examination of the eccentric characters and lethal pratfalls that were the early history of aviation.
