The Templars: The Rise and Spectacular Fall of God’s Holy Warriors

Written by Dan Jones
Review by Edward James

The Templars gives you what it says on the cover: a narrative history of the Knights Templar, and it is detailed, scholarly, lengthy and very readable. The author does not reveal any hidden secrets, nor does he claim that the Templars survived underground after their suppression in 1311 or that they are planning to take over the world, if they have not already covertly done so. But who needs fantasies when the truth is so fantastic? The 200-year rise to enormous wealth and power and the sudden, terrible downfall is a tale that can hardly be bettered.

So if you’ve read the Templar fantasies, here is the fantastic truth.
