The English Civil War was a horrific time in history. Families were split apart by fighting and no more is this keenly felt than by the hero in this tale.  By Loyalty Divided is the first in a series by Francine Howarth, and this promises to be a successful franchise, but I would suggest that this is squarely aimed at those who are interested in the romance side of historical fiction as it is heavily laden with romantic intrigue.

There are a few grammatical errors and a few punctuation slips that have been missed (some commas missing and apostrophes in the wrong place) which would be easily rectified by a good proofreader, but these should not spoil the enjoyment of the story. The language is rich and sumptuous and has an authenticity to it that makes the reader feel as though they have been transported back in time.

Definitely a ‘beach read’ or for those who like to enjoy the passion and romance of a story.
