Bio: I spent nearly 25 years living and studying in North Africa, the Middle East, and the Indian subcontinent. On returning to Fez, the last functional medieval city in the world, I started thinking of North Africa as an ideal setting for the novel I had in mind. Since that time I have written several novels set in Algiers during the 1790s. I have translated more than ten works from Arabic, Urdu and Persian into English including, in 2014, The Destitute, a classic of modern Egyptian literature. The first novel in the 1790s Algiers series, ADRIFT AND AT RISK, finished second in the 2017 Royal Palms Literary Awards and the first chapter was published in the January 2019 issue of The Write Launch. The second book in the series, AN ADMIRER OF BOOKS, won first place in the 2018 Royal Palms Literary Awards. A GRAVEYARD IN ALGIERS was runner up in the 2017 Beverly Prize in the UK by Eyewear Publishing. It was an honor to speak on the subject of historical Algiers at the HNS North American Conference in June of 2019!
