Susan Stinson is the author of Spider in a Tree (Small Beer, 2013), inspired by Northampton, MA in the time of eighteenth preacher Jonathan Edwards. She currently working on a novel set in seventeenth century Hartford. She has won the Lambda Literary Outstanding Mid-Career Novelist Prize. Her other novels are the Lambda Literary finalist Venus of Chalk (Firebrand, 2004); Martha Moody (Spinsters, 1995); and Fat Girl Dances with Rocks (Spinsters, 1994). A new German edition of Martha Moody has been reissued in both paperback and as an ebook (Martha flog auf der Engelskuh, Fischer, 2017). She has been a visiting lecturer at Amherst College.
She has received grants, residencies, and fellowships from the American Antiquarian Society, Hawthornden Castle, Barbara Deming Fund, Millay Colony, Blue Mountain Center, and the Banff School of Fine Arts. She lives in Northampton, MA.
