S. Lorraine Norwood
I am a writer of fiction and nonfiction. My historical fiction novel, The Solitary Swallow, is set in medieval England. The medieval period seized me when I was 11 and has never let go — I have no idea why. I’ve always felt I was born in the wrong country in the wrong time period. Writing novels set in England in the 1300s allows me to travel in time, at least in my head. I am also working on a book of short stories, loosely connected, that range from World War II to the present day. I lived in York, England for a year and grew to love the city almost as much as the mountains of Western North Carolina where I grew up. In a former life I worked as an archaeologist and journalist where my writing consisted of project reports and news stories. At night I took solace in writing fiction. Thankfully now that I took the leap and am writing full-time, the characters who have been rattling around in my head for more than 30 years can finally come out to play.
