In my novel THE ADVENTURESS (represented by Joyce Holland of the D4EO Literary Agency), the daughter of a free black man and an Irish immigrant passes as white in Civil War-era New York. I have published memoir, book reviews, works of literary criticism, and news stories. I edited three anthologies on controversial topics, including Sexual Values for Greenhaven Press, and co-edited a special issue of Women’s Studies Quarterly, focused on working women. As a freelance journalist I wrote features for the Syracuse (N.Y.) New Times, and covered the 1988 New Hampshire primary. I hold a Ph.D. in Literature from the University of California, Los Angeles, and have taught writing for 20 years. I am Professor of English at Utica College in Utica, New York.
