About me

Born in Boston MA, educated in Boston and Kansas City (don’t ask), lived in many parts of Europe as well as NYC, and for the past few years in Philly.
Married with dog. I’ve written a number of novels as Beverly Byrne and Beverly S. Martin, before deciding about ten years ago that it was simpler to use my birth name and keep it.
What all my novels have in common is that they’re historical fiction in whole or in part, though I bounce around among the nooks and crannies of the genre. My chief goal is to keep the reader entertained, and always asking that critical question, “And then what happened?”

POINT OF VIEW This is so basic I'm probably telling you what you already know, but I see so many examples of POV mistakes that it seems worth reiterating this fundamental technique of narrative. When you begin a scene you are telling your story—and I'll explain in a minute why…
