Adelaida Lucena de Lower was born in the city of Ibn-Battuta, Tangier, Morocco, to Spanish parents. Growing up, her family spoke in Castilian and French, and when they did not want her to know what they were saying, in Arabic. She decided to learn languages, became an ESL teacher, and traveled with her husband to faraway places. She has published short stories and articles, was a finalist in the Glimmer Train short story contest, and has reviewed for the Historical Novel Society. She now lives in Manassas, Virginia.
