Under a Lightning Sky

Having completed her trilogy of novels about Irish World War Two spy Sarah Gillespie, Pam Lecky returns to London during the blitz for this stand-alone murder mystery. Penny Fairfax’s sister Madeline is killed during a bombing raid, but when detective Jamie Barton comes to investigate, he seeks Penny’s help, as he believes Madeline’s death was no accident and was in fact murder and might even be linked to a criminal gang, which uses bombing raids to cover up their crimes.

Pam Lecky once again delivers a tightly plotted and addictive tale peopled with characters that readers will love, or love to hate, and a hero and heroine to really root for. Jamie is a fantastic character with a fully developed back story, whose growth is as important to the story as the murder mystery he investigates. Penny puts her relationship with her sister under the microscope as she comes to term with her brutal death and the hardship of life during the Blitz is brought into sharp focus. Lecky proves herself once more as a fantastic storyteller, especially of this particular time period. An essential read for fans of Kate Quinn and Deborah Swift.
