Along Came a Rogue: The Secret Life of Scoundrels Series
In 1816, Major Nathaniel Grey has risen through the ranks of the army on sheer grit. Fiercely loyal to his friends, Grey promises his wounded best friend to retrieve the man’s widowed sister from her country estate. What he discovers is a beautiful woman with a musket pointed at him. Emily Matteson Crenshaw refuses to accompany Grey, her youthful crush, to her injured brother’s sickbed, not because she does not wish to see her brother, but because she is keeping a terrible secret.
Harrington’s story has a mystery to break up the romance, and some interesting characters and writing. The book opens in an opera box with our hero in a compromising position with a woman of the ton. That sets a hard-core erotic tone that is not matched in the balance of the novel. Though there is sex between the hero and heroine, their relationship grows throughout the book, and we see that neither is what was presented in the beginning of the story.
