To Wed a Wicked Highlander

By

This historical romance is set in the first decade of the 1600s. Sybella (Ella) MacKenzie is married off to Alex, head of the MacDonell clan, supposedly to improve clan relations. But her father’s secret reason is to make Sybella an insider in the MacDonell castle, so that she can look for a seer’s stone that the MacDonells had stolen and hidden there. Ella initially intends to obey her father, but as she grows to love Alex, she must choose between betraying her own clan or her new husband.

While Ella is properly feisty, as an historical romance heroine should be, the story is rather slight. The seer’s stone is more of a MacGuffin to get the couple together, rather than an important plot point. I found the use of dialect heavier than necessary – a little goes a long way. The romance is satisfying, however, so the book will appeal to escapist romance fans who love a Scottish setting.
