The Horse-Tamer’s Challenge
The story begins in 1876 in the Montana Territory with Rebecca Susan Bennett agreeing to her father’s dying wish: Rebecca will rescue her kidnapped sister or kill her. Amy Bennett was taken as a young girl by Indians, and Mr. Bennett believes Amy will be better dead than as an Indian captive. The capable and mysterious horse-tamer, Lucas Swallow, agrees to help Rebecca, although he does not admit all of his reasons for doing so. The romance between Lucas, who is part Indian, and Rebecca, who hates Indians, is equal parts passion, frustration and misunderstanding. The conflict in their relationship is realistic and its resolution is what every romance reader seeks. The romance is balanced by a strong storyline which includes not only a mystery surrounding the kidnapped sister, but also lost gold, a frightening band of outlaws, and a redeemed Indian grandfather. There is much to enjoy and appreciate in Aalborg’s western romance.
