Merely A Mister
The travels of Myles Trent, the Marquis of Hayden, are shortened by his recurring illness. He is brought to a home to recuperate. Anne Whyte is the local healer. Her sweet nature attracts the attention of an unwanted suitor, arrogant Perry Wenfield. Mistaken identity allows Myles temporary escape from his name and title. With the burdens of nobility set aside, he and Anne speak and interact as equals; they grow close. Perry sets out to ruin the budding romance. Political complications ensue when Anne’s father becomes involved with a group of rabble-rousers, intent on finding justice for soldiers returning from the Napoleonic War. Are he and his friends plotting sedition? Can Myles— despite his secrets— find a way to bring peace to the region? Will Anne spurn Perry and accept Myles, despite his lies? With its mix of forgotten Regency history and romance, Merely a Mister is an enjoyable read. Recommended.
