Almost a Princess

By

This Regency-era romance is thick with plot, flimsy in characterization and period flair, and sprinkled with anachronism. Case Devere, Lord Castleton, assists the British government’s Special Branch in tracing a murderer, bringing him in contact with spinster Jane Mayberry, who rigorously conceals an unsavory secret that appears to doom their relationship. Jane believes strongly in female independence, and has her reasons. Case, who seeks her out to solve a crime, discovers deeper feelings for her, just as a man from her past emerges to threaten their new love. The story contains such suspense staples as stock villains and trusty dog, but is a well-paced and lively effort, with heated sex scenes. Thornton has achieved bestseller status, and her fans and historical romance readers alike will appreciate her latest.
