Nancy Marie Brown

About me

Nancy Marie Brown is the author of five books of nonfiction for general readers, including Song of the Vikings: Snorri and the Making of Norse Myths (Palgrave MacMillan 2012), The Abacus and the Cross: The Story of the Pope Who Brought the Light of Science to the Dark Ages (Basic Books 2010), and The Far Traveler: Voyages of a Viking Woman (Harcourt 2007). She holds a master’s degree in comparative literature from Penn State, where she specialized in Arthurian romance and Icelandic saga. After working as a science writer for 20 years, she went freelance in 2003 and is currently transitioning into writing historical fiction for young adults.
