A new historian of Victorian America and Spiritualism and member of the Society for Psychical Research (SPR), Lisa Borja has a masters in psychology and interest that extends to the exploration of dreams, parapsychology, psychic phenomena and life after death. Intriguing studies that led to writing historical fiction include books about the SPR, the reportedly channeled writings of Patience Worth, and the lives of William James, Edmund Gurney, Leonora Piper, and Victoria Woodhull, among others.
